This flu keeps coming and going in waves, it is just, nastiness. Everyone I know who has gotten sick, gets a little better and then sick again, we all seem to be favoring soups from the same place. Now the poor staff is sick as well.

This means all of our conversations of late have been freed of the concern for making sense and we are just ranging and exploring through all sorts of theories that we might have been hesitant to voice before for fear they sounded absolutely whackada.

Like the aflockalypse and shifting magnetic poles.

I had no idea that on any given week the poles shift around by 50 feet or so. Now, we seem to be in a stage that they are shifting quite a bit more. A runway at an airport in Tampa is closed because the compasses cannot find it where it is supposed to be anymore. It has moved. They are having to rename it and make new signs. Runways are named quaint things like 18L/5R to signify their location (180 degrees longitude 50 degrees latitude or something like that). Pilots plug in the coordinates and presto! There it is. Only this one has shifted so much there is nothing at the old coordinates anymore.

Now, before anyone starts saying the world is ending in 2012 again, in the 1800s we were 10 degrees from where we are now. This would appear to be a natural occurrence. The thing that everyone is curious about is that every 700,000 years or so the magnetic poles flip. North becomes South and vice versa. We are roughly due for a flip but there is absolutely no way to predict or project when. Also, no one can really project what the impact would be beyond truly messing with everything that is reliant on a compass. However, before doom and gloom raises its head, it would be such a noticeable reversal that accommodating it, in this day and age, would probably not cause that much disruption - just adjustment.

However, all this begins to make some sense out of why birds are falling out of the sky and fish are floating to the tops of the water. These are creatures with built in compasses. Any shift is going to cause a kind of confusion in them that could lead to them doing things that could be harmful to their species. In essence, they get lost and don't go where they need to go.

What is more interesting to me is the effect it may be having on people. Magnetism does effect how the body functions in many ways. I mean, physically, we have our own energy field (and I am talking pure science here, not any esoteric beliefs). From a sheer physical point of view, this shifting is having an effect on each person. If you begin to consider the metaphysical possibilities, the shift in how cultures and society has been behaving starts to take on a pattern.

Add to this that, like no other time before in history, we are surrounded and wedded to devices that give off their own electricity and magnetic fields, things take on an even more interesting range of understanding.
Consider this, in a recent issue of Discovery magazine there was an article published recounting a study that showed that strong magnetic fields can effect the part of our brain that deals with morality - our ability to know right from wrong. This is according to a paper published in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences.

Scientists from MIT, Harvard and Beth Israel conclusively proved they could use magnetic fields to confuse a person so much they had difficulty separating innocent intentions from harmful outcomes. Mind you, the key phrase is "make more difficult" and not "render unable."

Interesting also, as a side note, is the emphasis on intention in the definition of morality (which I do not wholly agree with). Intention is a part of morality, but the morally developed consciousness has the capacity for empathy which weighs intention against possible outcomes as understood through being able to imagine that which we do not have experience with knowing. Morality is defined by the ability to discern and make choices, response and not reaction.

If you watch the trajectory (both up and down) of the rise of Internet users and the downfall of responsibility and accountability you can come up with some interesting theories having to do with the messing with of the moral centers of our brains (the right temporo-parietal junction). Why else would the head of the House rules committee believe that raising his hand to a television set was acceptable participation in a swearing in ceremony? ←-that is a very tongue in cheek and rhetorical question

Now the study is careful to say that there is no solid proof that one causes the other, but it does bear consideration.

Andre-Marie Ampere (of the Amp fame) studied the relationship between electricity and magnetism. He discovered that electrical current produces magnetic fields and that the field then affects the current. Imagine a line with a bubble in it, where there is a bubble there is a magnetic field, it interrupts the line of current and can change its direction.

Anyone into chakras can tell you (in a much easier way to understand then scientific babble) that current passes through the body and exits on a series of lines, but that located in the body are centers - bubbles-of concentrated effect. Bubbles of magnetic fields that attract and repulse (for that is what magnets do).

Another side note for all the 2012 nonsense, magnetic fields have nothing to do with gravity. Nobody is going to fall off the earth.

However, how we experience and interact with life may be changing. And the presence of all our devices may both hinder and help that change. I suspect that it would be dependent on the person.

For myself, I find it very interesting that I suddenly "snapped" and redid the devices in my house the same week that the crows flew over me and have been possessed ever since of a calmer mind and more focused sense of intent.

These are, to put it mildly, interesting days in which everything must be considered as a part of the whole. I do not think it does any of us any good to be dismissive of any belief as all hold a portion of the truth.
